On March 7, 1938, a number of prominent Grimsby citizens gathered at the Village Inn to discuss reforming the Grimsby Lions Club. Originally, the club began in 1924, a mere seven years after the very first Lions club began in Chicago, Illinois.
Early Service activities included the Lions medal given to a graduating student at Grimsby Secondary School; swimming instruction at Grimsby Beach; financial support for C.N.I.B.; distributing Christmas stockings; sponsoring a Boy Scout troup.
Early Fund Raising projects included an annual carnival; Father & Son banquet; Annual Spring Dance; skating carnival.
Lions clubs support a number of service projects such as Diabetes Awarness, Sight conservation & work with the blind and hearing conservation. In Ontario, we have Lake Joseph Centre, a facility operated by the C.N.I.B. and well supported by Lions of Ontario; Lions Camp Dorset, a dialysis camp; and Lions Homes for the Deaf
More recent community projects have included the construction and maintanence of The Lions Pool in Coranation Park. We are currently working with The Grimsby Gentmen's Rugby Club in renovating Alway School on the escarpment into a community Centre.
The Grimsby Lions meet every second Tuesday of the month September to June at 6:45 p.m.
